My Ridge Radio Experience…

It’s not everyday a girl is invited on a Radio Station to talk about her blog.

So last Sunday, I was literally bursting with excitement and nerves at being a guest on Ridge Radio, a community internet radio station that covers 21 towns in Tandridge, East Surrey. This was totes exciting stuff.

Before we went on air I was unbelievably nervous, which was a first for me as I’m usually someone who is quite comfortable with anything remotely related to talking, showing off and performing. This made me realise that I need to get myself out there a bit more. It’s so easy to lose confidence in yourself and your abilities the longer you keep yourself tucked away. But the shows DJ, Adam and Producer H, made me feel so welcome and at ease on their show, 50 Plays of Gray, that as soon as the introductions were through, I quickly fell into the swing of things and I absolutely loved every minute of the experience.

Behind the microphone I was grinning the whole time. It was such a fantastic opportunity to talk about Miss Enchanting and to explain a little more about this crazy blogging world. A lot of people I know are still only vaguely aware of what a blog is and so it was great to be able to reach out to a new audience and share some of my favourite blogging experiences so far.

Loving this Radio lark…Fearne Cotton watch out!

I was asked to choose three songs to play during the show, which was much harder than I thought it would be. Its amazing how self conscious you can be when narrowing down a lifetime of music loves to just three songs, making you feel like each one speaks volumes as who you are as a person. My song choices held really personal memories and so I felt a little naked sharing them and explaining their importance to me. But just in case you missed it, here were my three song choices…

Dire Straits- Expresso Love

Making Movies, is our Birch family anthem. It was Mum & Dad’s favourite album and Romeo & Juliet is their wedding anniversary song. This is the album that connects us a family.

Red Hot Chili Peppers- Snow (Hey Oh)

This song reminds me of being young, brave and ambitious when I took myself off to New York to do an internship with a wedding planner. One of my jobs out there was to stuff Holiday cards into envelopes, which just so happened to be from the drummer in the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Hence I brought their album from a music store in Times Square and listened to it during my stay.

Laid- The Best of James

This is a song that the Hubster and I play really loud whilst we’re cooking or washing up. It makes me happy and thankful for what we have together and I never want those precious moments to end.

DJ Adam…almost show time!

You have to check out his show 50 Plays of Gray!

Producer H!

The shows DJ, Adam is a real natural on air. He plays some really cool Indie/Rock anthems, along with some hilarious features, such as ‘Obscure War’, where Adam and his Dad compete to find the most obscure song, to which listeners then vote in for their favourite. Producer H, (who just happens to be a huge fan of the blog) brings a lot of laughter and light to the show. Coming from a theatrical background, she is so passionate about the world of movies and television and her weekly reviews and news are a fab addition to the show. The chemistry between Adam and Producer H is brilliant. Their love of music and their dedication and enthusiasm for the radio show shines throughout their two hour slot, (which by the way goes so quickly, they definitely need to extend the show!) they make such a good radio team.

They make a great team!
